Private Pilot License

Offered at Future Air's convenient Collingwood, Owen Sound, Midland, and Simcoe locations, the Private Pilot License can be just for fun or the starting point for a professional pilot's career. A Private Pilot License will allow you to fly a single engine aircraft and carry as many passengers as the aircraft will hold. You can fly within or outside Canada in the daytime, under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). If you need to fly for business as well as pleasure, this is the license for you.

The following additional ratings can be acquired by the holder of a Private Pilot License:

  • Night Rating
  • Float Endorsement
  • Instrument Rating
  • VFR Over the Top Rating
  • Multi-Engine Rating

To obtain the Private License you must be at least 17 years of age, complete the necessary flight training, and pass a written examination and Flight Test with Transport Canada.

The Private Pilot ground school offered at Future Air is a 60 hour course, exceeding the requirements of Transport Canada. The following subjects are taught:

The medical qualification required for the Private Pilot License is a Category 3 or higher medical certificate. This Category 3 medical certificate can be acquired through a Transport Canada Aviation Medical Examiner.

Flight Training

Flight training time is divided into Dual time (with an Instructor) and Solo time.

The minimum training time is 45 hours total flight time in the aircraft including:

Dual Training

  • At least 17 hours of flight time, including a minimum of 3 hours cross-country experience.
  • 5 hours of instrument flying.

Solo Training

  • 12 hours of flight time, including a minimum of 5 hours cross-country experience.
  • The remaining time will be made up as required in either dual or solo time.

These are minimum training requirements outlined by Transport Canada. Individuals may, in some cases, exceed these requirements before being recommended for a flight test.

Courses are set up around your schedule, if you can only fly once a week or on weekends we will accommodate your needs, however for best results we recommend at least two flights per week.
