Tail Wheel TrainingThere can be two possible types of landing gear configuration on an aircraft. The first is the front wheel, which is easier to fly, and engineered to make flight as safe as possible. However, this is a more modern innovation, and most vintage, as well as some aerobatic aircraft, use a design called a tail wheel or "tail dragger" - two front wheels, and a single wheel at the tail of the airplane. To fly a tail wheel or tail dragger aircraft requires additional training, which Future Air is happy to provide at Collingwood. Tail Wheel training increases pilot skill (i.e. rudder control) and the overall understanding of the forces acting on an aircraft during flight. This training lends itself well to Aerobatics training. The Tail Wheel training is conducted in a 150 hp, Citabria 7KCAB, and will concentrate on the special techniques for take-off and ground maneuvering and the different landing styles. Prior to Solo practice, students must successfully pass a proficiency check with the CFI. Unfortunately we have had to remove this plane from service while it is being overhauled. We are hopeful that it will be back in service in a few months. Please feel free to contact us for an update on its availability.
These are minimum training requirements as outlined by Transport Canada. Individuals may, in some cases, exceed these requirements before being recommended for a flight test. Costs
